2015 Empowerment Experience

On September 13th, 2015 in Harlem, The Power of You Teens, held the 2nd Annual Empowerment Experience event for teenage girls, ages 12-18.

The 2nd Annual Power Of You Teens Empowerment Experience.

In 2015, we embarked on our second POYT Empowerment Experience. The goal this year was to up the ante and increase our visibility in the community. We wanted to be sure more and more teen girls in the Harlem area had access to our programs.

Our Power Woman team hosted a one-day event filled with a dynamic “Power Woman” Panel, fantastic dance performances, and an exhilarating Back To School Fashion show featuring young up-n-coming teen fashion designers. It was a magical day that ignited the spark for girls to be Brave, Bold, and Brilliant.

Uptown Dance Academy

Uptown Dance Academy is considered to be the premiere dance school for urban youth in the NYC area. Located right in the heart of Harlem, it only made sense that they would grace our POYT Experience stage with some of their top performers—setting a tone of excellence and prestige for the day.

The Women’s Power Panel

POYT invited women from ALL fields this year to tap into the worlds of science and technology. Accomplished engineers, media executives, and authors presented a thought-provoking discussion on what it takes to be a boss at what you love to do.

FEMME! Part Duex!

Miss Bernadette Pleasant of Femme! visited us again to help us embrace the power of our femininity. We were all able to explore and release emotions, to alter or release beliefs about ourselves, and to unapologetically love our bodies!

PowerGirl Spotlight Performance

Our very own PowerGirl and aspiring pianist, Alexandra Christopher, performed Alicia Keys’ Girl On Fire. Alexandra was gifted her first keyboard by POYT, when she expressed interest in playing the piano. Her Power Woman Mentor Shauna Graham, then engaged in monthly lessons in order for her to develop her craft.

Back To School Fashion Show With Pinky Sez

Burgeoning teen fashion designer, Tyyan Williams, showcased her latest back to school gear from the line, Pinky Sez, with our very own PowerGirls as models. By the time of our second POYT Expo, Tyyan had participated in nearly 30 fashion shows!
